November 2016 ICF Houston Monthly Meeting - Perspectives on Leadership and Coaching with Tom Kolditz
What actually changes a person's capacity to lead? How does coaching play a pivotal role? Why has professional coaching grown and developed in the way that is has over the last 10-15 years? How are approaches to university-level leader development changing?

Tom Kolditz, founding director of Rice University's Doerr Institute for New Leaders, will explore answers to these questions and more while offering perspectives from a successful and varied career at the forefront of leadership development.

In this talk, Tom will explore the following themes:
  • What makes effective leadership development
  • The transformation of university-level leader development
  • The exciting and evolving role of professional coaching in developing young leaders
  • The application of new technologies in coach and leader training

Prior to Rice, Tom taught as a Professor in the Practice of Leadership and Management and Director of the Leadership Development Program at the Yale School of Management. A retired Brigadier General, he led the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Leadership at West Point for 12 years. He is the author of In Extremis Leadership: Leading as if Your Life Depended on It, and holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Sociology from Vanderbilt University, three Master's degrees, and a PhD in Psychology from the University of Missouri. Tom weaves his personal experiences and abilities as a soldier, skydiving instructor, and scholar into the first-hand study, analysis and practice of leadership.


November 9th Education Seminar: ICF Global Survey 2016 - Presentation of Results and Discussion

The 2016 Global Coaching Study represents ICF’s most ambitious, extensive and expansive industry research to date, capturing insights from professional coach practitioners and managers/leaders using coaching skills across the globe. More than 15 000 answers were obtained from ICF and non-ICF coaches. 

In this interactive program, some data and statistics from global as well as specifically from Texas will be presented*. You’ll find out things like average number of clients, average income, fees, what other services coaches offer and opinions on regulation, greatest perceived opportunities for coaching and greatest perceived threats. There will be an opportunity to customize and compare Texas figures with that of the the US and globally via a live database. Following the presentation we’ll discuss the results and how it relates to our chapter and individual practices. Come join us this morning and get invigorated from meeting your fellow coaches, a whole bunch of interesting data, great discussions and maybe a bit of caffeine! 

*The presentation is mostly a repeat from the October meeting although we’ll spend more time on the interactive part as well as the discussion.
